  • This radio-controlled, battery-operated, model airplane resembles a Boeing 757 Jumbo Jet Airplane. The airliner is HUGE -- with a wingspan of over four feet!

The Step 1 Range is suitable for the total novice to Radio Controlled Aircraft - By this we mean someone who has never operated a Radio Controlled plane, helicopter, car or boat etc.

Step 1 Aircraft such as the Gekko, Parawing and Voodoo are especially suited to children WITH ADULT SUPERVISION

To Fly any model in our Ready to Fly range you don’t require any special insurance, you can fly anywhere (Within reason) We Strongly recommend that you keep at least 50m from People and Property PLEASE READ OUR STEP 1 Aircraft guide here

Am I still a novice if I can play a flight simulator computer game?

We really rate the value of computer and playstation games - they teach hand to eye co-ordination - one of the most important aspects of Radio Controlled modelling. Unfortunately they don’t teach depth perception which is vital to controlling a real radio controlled plane.

How do I fly the a Step 1 Plane?

The Step 1 Range all use the same basic control system. There are 2 small electric motors located on opposite sides of the body. When the right hand control stick on the transmitter is pushed forward the right hand motor spins the propeller. This gently turns the plane to the left . Push both control sticks forward and the plane will climb, release both sticks and the plane will gently descend.

Where to fly and the weather

The beginner models are lightweight they are NOT SUITABLE FOR WINDY CONDITIONS. An ideal situation would be a light breeze in a park or school playing field. Always launch and land your model into the wind. The easiest way to find this is to tie a small piece of ribbon to the tip of the antenna on the transmitter.

I’ve Crashed my Plane and the wing has broken

The wing is made from EPP Polystyrene foam it can be repaired easily with wide sellotape. For a stronger repair use either fibreglass tape, 5 min epoxy glue (Araldite Rapid) or PVA wood glue. The most important thing to remember is to retain the balance of the wing. Find the centre point of the wing and draw a line across the width. Then balance the wing on this line, if one wing tip drops then add sellotape to the other wing tip to retain the correct balance. This will ensure your model retains the same stable flying properties. We stock all the major components for all our models here and wings are inexpensive.

I have learnt to fly my Step 1 Model what do you suggest now?

If you’re feeling confident with your flying skills, then maybe you could try a Step2 model. The , Firebird XL, Gold Eagle Range or J3 Piper Cub, are excellent intermediate trainers. Or if you feel really confident then the Step 3 Radio Control Aircraft such as the Soarer or Wing Dragon are full function radio controlled aircraft. that will allow you to progress on more complex and high performance models
