Radio-controlled model sailing yacht to 1:10 scale
The Smaragd (Emerald) is a large model which can be sailed even in quite strong winds, and in its basic version can be controlled with a simple two-channel radio control system. The carefully optimised arrangement of the sail area allows the boat to achieve the maximum speed possible from the hull design even in moderate winds and on all headings. If you enjoy making use of exotic auxiliary functions, you may fit an optional Genoa or Blister sail in place of the standard jib. The setting of the Genoa (enlarged foresail) is adjusted by means of an additional sailwinch, and it provides advantages above all in light to moderate winds on all tacks. The blister is a foresail with a generous belly, sewn in bands, whose spherical shape develops considerable thrust in light to moderate winds.
In contrast to a spinnaker, which normally has to be lowered when the boat is luffing, the blister can be left deployed, as it can be used in a similar fashion to the Genoa when its luff is close-hauled via transmitter control. |
